Jones

Jones College Prep and its impressive Green Team won the 2011 Green Festival Challenge. They teamed up with Printer’s Row Lit Fest, just blocks away from their school, to educate others about the importance of recycling and utilizing our resources more efficiently.

Above Their Years!

The Jones students impressed festival attendees with their passion for the environment and knowledge of the issues.  Students had ample opportunity to interact with the public in an "elevator speech" activity, in which volunteers quizzed students on a variety of environmental topics. More than one festival goer commented that the students performed "above their years" in conveying information to adult listeners."

How About That Diversion Rate

It was the student’s turn to become the teachers and educators at the festival. Their efforts to educate festival goers and community members about recycling at the festival led to a diversion rate of 85%. 85% of all discarded items at the festival were diverted away from the landfill and recycled. Impressive!

Building Collaborative Partnerships for Community Sustainability

The Jones College Prep Green Team showed that together we can make a sustainable difference in our communities.

"Having the Jones College Prep Team out at Printers Row Lit Fest this year helped us cut back on waste and educate our attendees on what materials can be recycled.  Most people don’t even take a second to think about the item they are throwing away, but with the students there to help, we had a much higher diversion rate."
