My Gen is a grass-roots organization started by a group of citizens who saw the great need to provide environmental education to our children and improve the environment.  Neighborhood leaders, teachers and community members have volunteered their time, advice and expertise to develop My Gen programs. My Gen programs are designed to enable students to apply the knowledge and training they receive in the classroom to participating in environment enhancing service learning projects.

This experiential learning process enables them to develop the critical thinking and problem solving skills they will need to succeed, address future complex sustainability issues and become strong environmental stewards.

Unleashing the Competitive Spirit

My Gen’s goal is to apply a competitive framework and offer incentives to students to participate in environmental service learning projects. We have found that students respond very positively to targeted incentives that encourage them to compete against one another while participating in projects that better their communities. The Green Festival Challenge is My Gen’s first environment enhancing service learning project.

Collaborative Problem Solving

My Gen hopes to collaborate with other organizations to include their projects within this competitive framework. The competition will drive students to participate in many already existing organizations’s environment enhancing projects. Greening festivals, selling compact fluorescent light bulbs, raising funds for solar panels on schools, planting trees and many other activities will provide rich learning experiences for students and improve the environment.

My Gen is a true grass-roots and 100% volunteer organization. Only through the help and input from many people and volunteers are our programs feasible.
