Connecting the Dots – Education, Innovation & Opportunities
Students learn about Climate Change, Recycling, Water Conservation, Energy Efficiency and many other environmental issues during their 10-lesson after school educational program. They then apply their newly found knowledge to a fun and engaging real world experience of “greening” their neighborhood festival.
The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum developed the after-school lesson plans for the program. Its Teacher Professional Development team was instrumental.
Just a Friendly Collaborative Competition
Green Teams from different schools team with their neighborhood festival and compete with other Green Teams around the City. The competition includes many categories. Green Team members are judged on the knowledge they gain and apply to the "greening" of the festival, their efforts to increase recycling at the festival, ability to reach out to the community and many other categories.
My Gen believes that neighborhood festivals can be a tool and catalyst for creating positive change within communities. The Green Festival Challenge combines the efforts of teachers, festivals and community to educate, empower and unleash the competitive spirit of young people to make their neighborhood festival and community the "greenest" in their city.
